Valentine's Day!

We had so much fun on Valentine's Day this year! We started by making super sweet Valentine's bags that would hold all of our goodies!
We had a special guest during reading, Mrs. Ness, that read some of the cutest Valentine's Day themed books!
During writing, we wrote Valentine's Day cards to our friends and families and then we ended the day with a classroom party!
We had many parent volunteers and enjoyed decorating cupcakes and handing out our valentines 💓

Thank you to all who came in or donated goodies to our lovely party!

Happy Valentine's Day from Ms. Teixeira's Class!

Music Class

Here is a note from Mrs. Alvarado our lovely music teacher!

During music this week, the students enjoyed learning "Six Little Ducks". To accompany this song, they learned a tricky rhythm stick routine. As you see, we had a lot of fun combining both the singing and rhythm accompaniment. This was such a popular song that each student volunteered to sing a solo!! (YAY)! Ask your child to teach you this song at home!

Keep Singing!

Kindness Rocks!

Besides learning math, reading, and writing we have been talking about what is means to be kind to one another.

First, we read the book Strictly No Elephants. This book talks about inclusion and the children really loved reading it. They were able to make so many text-to-self connections!

We then brainstormed ways in which we could be kind. It was so great to hear all the thoughtful ideas the children came up with. They talked about being kind at school, at home, and when they are out in the community.

We then ended the day by playing Kindness Bingo! This was so fun and the children were so kind and encouraging to the other students who won that we ended up playing multiple rounds!

Ask your children ways in which they can be kind and why it is so important to treat others the way you want to be treated!

Fancy Day!

On Thursday, it was Fancy Day here in the fabulous first grade at Fuller Meadow!

We were inspired by the Fancy Nancy book series and all the fantastic and fabulous fancy words we read in her books! So, in writing, we began practicing using descriptive words, or adjectives, to enhance our own writing.

This led to being fancy all day long!

Everyone came into school looking handsome, dapper, beautiful, and might I add very posh looking!

We then went over to Mrs. Scharffenberg's classroom and read Fancy Nancy books and looked for both plan and fancy words with a partner. It was so fun reading with students from other classes!

We then worked on fancy writing, where we turned ourselves into excellent and talented astronauts, artists, chefs, and many other amazing types of people and tried to include as many fancy descriptive words as possible!

At the end of the day we met with the entire fabulous first grade and enjoyed a reading soiree (that's a fancy word for party) in the cafeteria!

All of us a splendid day being fancy! Even the teachers joined in on the fun!

Ask your student to use the new fancy descriptive words they've learned at home!
